发展中国家经济是原来经济落后、正处在由传统经济向现代化经济过渡的发展过程中的国家经济。发展中国家的经济发展水平与发达资本主义国家有很大的差距，曾被称为“不发达国家”、“欠发达国家”，60年代后国际上一般通称为“发展中国家”，属于“第三世界”。到1982年底，全世界发展中国家约一百三十个，其中九十多个是二次大战后新独立的国家。
