应天府
应天府，又称京师、南京，是南京在明朝时期的名称，为明朝前期首都，后永乐时期迁都顺天府，应天府作为陪都。应天府下辖上元、江宁、句容、溧阳、溧水、高淳、江浦、六合八县。明代中叶，南京城人口达120万，是当时中国规模最大、人口最多的城市，也是全世界最大的城市。元朝至正十六年（1356年）朱元璋亲自带兵分三路用十天时间攻破集庆路（今南京）；同年三月，改集庆路为应天府，“应天”之名意指“上应天意”。明朝洪武元年（1368年）八月，建为南京，为明朝京师；永乐十九年（1421年）明成祖北迁，以顺天府为京师，以南京应天府为留都。清朝顺治二年（1645年），满清攻克应天府后改名为江宁府。
