欧洲货币汇率机制
欧洲货币汇率机制是欧洲货币体系为实现内部可调整的固定汇率制，而对第三国货币实行联合浮动，建立的一个由中心汇率、波动幅度和干预机制组成的有机系统。它是欧洲货币体系的一项主要内容。1979年3月13日，欧洲货币体系始行之日，除英国以外，其余8个欧共体成员国 (法国、西德、意大利、荷兰、比利时、卢森堡、丹麦、爱尔兰) 均参加了汇率机制，而且新机制的要求更加严格。所以区别于原来的蛇形联合浮动制，这个新阶段的联合浮动制被称为超蛇 (super snake)。

欧洲货币体系
欧洲货币体系（EuropeanMonetarySystem，EMS)，又称“欧洲货币制度”。是指欧洲共同体国家通过决议建立的货币集团。1979年3月正式成立。旨在建立一个欧洲货币稳定，在共同体内部保持成员国之间的汇率稳定，避免美元不稳的影响，发展成员国之间的经济贸易关系，促进投资，提高共同市场的经济增长与就业，推动西欧联合。主要内容：成员国之间实行固定汇率制，对非成员国实行浮动汇率制；创设欧洲货币单位，并使之逐步发挥货币职能；准备建立欧洲货币基金，以加强干预市场和提供信贷的力量；对经济情况较差的成员国提供各项资助。1989年6月，西班牙宣布加入欧洲货币体系，1990年10月，英国也宣布加入，使欧洲货币体系的成员国扩大到10个。
